Archery FAQ's

Choosing the correct size of bow

Choosing the correct size of bow is an important first step in archery and is easily achieved using the following simple steps...

  • Stand with your arms outstretched and with the palms of your hands touching each other - your fingers should be extended.

  • With the help of a friend, ask them to measure from the centre of your chest to the tips of your fingers and then add an extra inch.

  • This measurement will give you the length of arrow required and hence the bow size.

Consideration should also be given to the draw weight of the bow. This will depend upon your physique and size. Ideally you should choose a bow that will allow you to draw back and hold this for around 60 seconds, giving you time to aim correctly. For example, if you have a small physique then you should choose a bow that has a lower draw weight. A draw weight of around 15 - 20 pounds would be right for beginners or children, whilst a draw weight around 20 - 25 pounds would be correct for an adult.
